Artist Statement
In my artistic journey, which began in my childhood just outside Cape Town, South Africa, I have always sought to capture the inherent beauty I see in the world. Art has been a constant companion throughout my life, starting with my early participation in flower arrangement competitions. Those experiences, arranging colorful flowers to create two-dimensional images, laid the foundation for my lifelong commitment to visual expression.
While I was admitted to the Bezalel Art School in Jerusalem, financial considerations led me to pursue Art and Music Education at the University of Victoria, Canada. My artistic path has seen its share of twists and turns, including my service in the Israeli Armed Forces and my subsequent emigration to Canada. However, it was the arrival of motherhood that rekindled my creative spirit, prompting me to explore various artistic mediums, including pottery.
Despite my deep appreciation for pottery, my love for vibrant colors ultimately drew me towards two-dimensional art forms, especially silk painting. Yet, I longed for more texture and depth, leading me to dive into the world of oil and acrylic painting. In my works, I strive to create vibrant colors, textured surfaces, and an embossed relief effect using stencils.
My artistic journey extends beyond my personal creations. I am passionate about nurturing creativity in others. My experiences as an Artist in Residence at a local school, where I inspired students, and my role as an art educator teaching pottery, clay art, and conducting "Painting from the Soul" workshops have shown me the transformative power of art on emotional and spiritual well-being.
Through my art, I aim to capture the world's beauty and invite others to embark on their creative journeys, just as I have done throughout my life.
