Children's Rights depicts the 1989 UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, a treaty that has been ratified by most countries of the world. In it, the rights of children to, through and for are enshrined. Children's rights are universal to all children; every child is entitled to these rights and they shall not be taken away. Furthermore, they are inherent to the dignity of every child and each right has equal status. Respect for all rights is required for their full enjoyment. Finally, each right in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child contributes to the realization of the child's dignity. The fulfilment of one right depends wholly, or in part, on the fulfilment of other rights. In this painting, Lesley highlights the rights of every child to water, food, education, healthcare, and shelter in the blue Provision globe. Furthermore, every child has a right to live a peaceful life, to be loved and cared for, and to be protected from work that is exploitive and harmful. Finally, every child has a right to an identity, freedom of expression and to live a good life, lived to its full potential as they stand together with others as agents of change in the pursuit of love and justice for all life.
